Ageing well is not a matter of luck — it is something we can actively support through knowledge, healthy habits and the right care at the right time. Insights for Healthy Ageing, a two-volume collection from the Geriatric Services team in the Department of Psychiatry at NIMHANS, is designed to put that knowledge into the hands of the general public.
A public education initiative
The series brings together chapters written by experts from a wide range of specialties, each offering practical guidance on a different aspect of growing older healthily. By gathering this expertise into an accessible format, the initiative helps older adults, their families and caregivers understand what healthy ageing really involves — physically, mentally and socially.
Aligned with a global movement
The project is aligned with the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030), a worldwide effort to improve the lives of older people, their families and communities. The Decade focuses on changing how we think about age, building age-friendly environments, and ensuring access to quality care and long-term support. Public education resources like this are a vital part of making those goals real at the level of everyday life.
Why it matters for families
As India’s population ages, more families are caring for elderly loved ones at home. Reliable, expert-backed information empowers them to support healthy ageing — from preventing common problems to recognising when professional help is needed. At Carenza, supporting older adults to live comfortably and with dignity at home is central to everything we do, and initiatives like this reflect the same commitment to informed, compassionate care.
